Busy weekend

We were busy these past several days. Thursday, Mason and I went to our first mom/baby movie at the neighborhood theater. We saw Julie & Julia with about 25 other moms and babes. It was lots of fun! I was pleasantly surprised with how nice the film was too.

Friday our friend Rebecca was in town from Japan. She stops through every summer for a few days, and we were lucky that she was able to come over to meet Mason. Sunday we had visits from Theda and later from the bruders - Trent, Nick and Gregg. Despite having rain in the forecast, it ended up being a gorgeous day. I'm thinking we won't need to use the air conditioner again until next year.

Here are some pictures from the weekend.

Mason meets Nico & Andrew

Nico, Andrew and Finn visited last weekend from New Haven on their way to the Jersey Shore. We all met up at The Gate for an afternoon of catching up and enjoying some cold ones. Mason also met Tanya for the first time and saw his buddies Siobhan and the Roth-man.

Mason is starting to have longer periods of alertness and is recently finding his activity gym pretty entertaining. I can leave him under there for a good 20 minutes before he gets bored, which is a perfect amount of time for me to do things like eat!

Today is supposed to be the last hot day for a while, thank goodness. We'll be able to do a lot more outdoor stuff once it starts cooling down a bit.

T-minus 2 weeks to the first shots! I will feel much better once he's had them. After that he'll be able to go on the subway and visit mine and Adrian's office friends. We'll have so much more freedom that it'll seem like a whole new world!

Date Night

Yesterday was our second wedding anniversary. We'd planned to go out to dinner at a bean-friendly place in the nabe. We first tried for the garden at Franny's, but that was too long of a wait, so we went to a little Italian place on 5th Ave. The first picture says enough about how the rest of the evening went. Yep. Just as our drinks arrived, the bean was in wailing mode. A couple of weeks ago, a quick walk up and down the block remedied any outbursts and put the little guy right to sleep, but that trick doesn't work anymore. After a diaper change, a number of attempts at feeding, and other normally reliable ways to calm him failed, we told the waiter that we'd take our food to go and headed home. In that same moment, a thunderstorm was moving through the area, and we got caught in the downpour a few blocks from home. We dodged into a little restaurant for a soda (of course it was a BYOB joint, so we couldn't have a drink!), until the rain subsided. We finally ate our anniversary dinner at 11:00 p.m. while watching Rachel Maddow. There is a silver lining, however. Mason slept for over 4 hours when he finally went down.

We went to our mommies group today at Boing, which was fun. One of the moms had a sling that we tried out. Mason fell right to sleep when I put him in it, so of course I had to buy one. He looks especially cute in it.

The last picture is the little Asian baby I mentioned in a prior post. Her name is Maya, and she is adorable.

Saturday morning bath

Mason loves his bath. This morning he was making some cute faces, so here are a couple of photos. The little guy is officially 10 lbs. I weighed him at my mommies' group last Wednesday. He has lots of friends his age already. There were 9 other babies at the group this week. One was a 6-week-old Asian baby girl who had a ton of black hair and huge black eyes. She looked like Gizmo from Gremlins. Hopefully she'll be there again next week so I can get a picture of her and Mason together.

Growing like a weed

Mason is five weeks old today! Other people look at him and comment on how small he is, but to us, he's grown a lot! I bet he's a 10-pounder already. He's about 3 1/2 weeks away from his first shots (though he doesn't know that...poor guy!).

Last weekend Jill and Lulu came out for a visit, and yesterday we went into lower Manhattan to see some Spanish friends of ours who were in town for a couple of days. Despite the heat and humidity we're having recently, we're really enjoying the summer in Brooklyn. We're around for the rest of the month, in case any of you want to come out for a visit.

One Month Old!

Today is Mason's one month birthday! We're going to get outside and enjoy this lovely weather to celebrate.

Last night we went to the Purple Rain sing-along at the Prospect Park band shell with Siobhan and Andrew Roth and Jamie and Jane Joyce. Siobhan's friend Melanie was there too with her 7-week-old boy Bram. It was so much fun! I have never seen the place so packed, and everyone was singing and rocking out. Despite all of the action, the babies were totally chillin'. I guess the music and ambient noise is soothing for them.

Here is a little video I took yesterday of Mason during his tummy time.

Grandma & Grandpa meet the bean

The past week has been a busy one for us. Grandma & Grandpa Janulewicz were visiting and met Mason for the first time. We got out of the house a lot and took advantage of the warm, sunny weather and nice cool evenings. Saturday night Mason attended his first concert! It was Dean & Britta at the Prospect Park band shell. We were all very surprised how much he liked it! Our friends, the Nobles, were there too. It was the perfect summer Saturday night activity. We are looking forward to going to the Purple Rain sing-along at the band shell this Thursday.

You may notice that Mason has lost some of his hair :( I gave him a bath last week, and as I was drying his little scalp, he shed a layer of skin and hair!
